The basic objects in Scheme, called S-expressions, consist of atoms and “dotted pairs”: What is Scheme Programming? The scheme is a syntactically simple programming language and a descendant of Lisp. It was created at MIT’s Artificial Intelligence Lab by Guy Steele and Gerry Sussman in 1975. The scheme required implementation of the tail call optimization and it was the first dialect of Lisp.
