Ctenanthe setosa is a clump-forming, evergreen perennial plant growing about 1-2 m tall. Its white flowers are borne on short spikes. Ctenanthe setosa has silvery-blue variegation that immediately captures your attention, complemented by rosy-hued stems and purplish leaf undersides. Ctenanthe (along with their close relatives Calatheas and Marantas) are commonly called "Prayer Plants" because their leaves lie flat by day, but fold upwards in the evenings.

It likes a shady, warm, sheltered position and is a popular houseplant choice. Its stunning foliage has contrasting silver leaves with bold dark green herringbone patterns and striking purple undersides. Many cultivars have been developed from this species.
